You know summer’s the perfect time to switch to your shorts and flip-flops, but did you know it’s also the proper time to change your diet? You might be wondering what to eat in summer to keep your body cool and refreshed. Let us take you through a list of summer foods to eat for every meal through the day.

Breakfast- The everyday commitment

Let’s start with breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Like love, breakfast is best when made at home.

Eggs are the best food you can have for breakfast. The best thing about eggs is they can be made in hundreds of ways. You can boil them, poach them, bake them, simply toss them in a pan; anyway they are going to be delicious.

Have your whole grains for breakfast. Mornings are the best time to have your yogurt. Fruit smoothies can keep you refreshed the whole day.  Morning is the time when nutrients are much needed so plan your food effectively.

Snacking is for the soul

I’m a snack person. I am the kind of women who pack snacks in her bag instead of makeup. Have you felt your stomach growl just after 2-3 hours of work, just around 11 Am? That’s the worst. Summer offers you colorful and lush mid-morning snacking options. You can have fresh fruit bowls, fruit popsicles, fresh juices, iced tea, coconut water or even buttermilk.

Lunch boxes are surprise boxes

Lunch was my favorite part at school, I grew up and it became a favorite part of life. If you already know this, its fine, if not, I take the pride in introducing you to Buddha bowl for lunch.

A Buddha bowl is usually a vegetarian meal, served on a single bowl. It carries little portions of various foods and mostly served cold. What makes Buddha bowls awesome is the fact you can add almost anything to it.

It is a one-dish meal consisting of rice or whole grains, cooked veggies, dressing, and protein. The protein can be anything like beans, tofu, eggs, lentils, meat or fish.

Snacking is my favorite hobby

If you are an evening time snacker, you can have plain or flavored lassie as an option. Trail mix, protein bars, cheese slices, apple slices, dates, berries, baked chips, legumes, citrus fruits, grapes, and melons and on it goes. The options are endless. Opt for green tea with lemon and honey rather than your regular coffee or tea. Thank me later!

Family around the table, it’s dinner time

For dinner, always choose simple one-pot recipes, healthy sandwiches or even a pasta salad with a lot of vegetables. Grilled chicken or barbequed fish are my personal favorites for dinner.

Choose wiser

I don’t believe in entirely avoiding any type of food, but it’s good to choose healthier. Avoid processed food or grease loaded fast foods. Have fruit popsicles or frozen yogurt instead of your soft serve ice creams. Have fresh juice instead of bottled beverages.
